How to Fix Lag & High Ping in Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0

Shots not registering? Choppy gameplay and rubber banding? Not after you read this blog. From network optimization tips to how DumaOS can solve networking issues, this blog has it all. We get it, losing a gunfight in Warzone 2.0 due to lag is infuriating and definitely not a skill issue. That’s why we have come up with these tips to solve your issues. We also have a YouTube video at the end covering how to set up DumaOS for the best connection possible in Al Mazrah.

Warzone Server Status

When experiencing a sudden period of Warzone lag, before you change any settings or your network setup, it’s best to check the status of the game servers. Normally when lag occurs, we assume something on our network is affecting our connection quality. Although server issues could be the culprit, especially during peak playing times or after a new update.

Unfortunately, there’s no fix for this. It’s up to the game developers to fix the server. Here are some links to check when you experience lag to find the server status for the game or your console.

Using a Wired Connection to Avoid Lag in Warzone

The first change we would recommend would be your type of connection. Switching from a wireless (Wi-Fi) connection to a wired (Ethernet) connection will make a huge difference in Warzone 2.0.

Packet loss is a common issue when playing over a wireless connection. This can lead to situations where your shots aren’t registered properly in-game, causing you to lose gunfights. Unstable ping is also an issue with a wireless connection, especially if your console or PC is far away from your router.

A wired connection (Ethernet cable or powerline adapters) provides a much more stable connection. This is much more important than connection speed when it comes to gaming. A reliable and constant stream of data across your network will produce the best gameplay possible.

Peripherals & Hardware

As mentioned, a wired connection is better for gaming. This applies to your peripherals too. Whether you’re using a controller or mouse and keyboard, a wired version will provide a better connection for gaming. Wireless peripherals can experience interference from other nearby wireless devices. This causes issues like input lag, something you do not want in Al Mazrah.

For PC players, system requirements are something else to consider. Make sure your PC specs at least cover the minimum system requirements for Warzone 2.0. You can find the minimum and recommended requirements here.

Another thing to check is your graphics drivers. Make sure you are running the latest version of drivers, whether you are an NVIDIA or AMD user. Here are the links to find the most up-to-date release:

In-Game Settings to Beat the Warzone Lag

The first setting to check is in the Interface menu, under Telemetry. We recommend setting Telemetry to at least Essentials. You can use Custom if you prefer, but make sure you have Latency, Packet Loss, and FPS displayed. With this information, you will be able to see what type of lag you are experiencing.

Changing in-game settings will help resolve performance (FPS) lag. If you are not experiencing FPS issues and have tried the tips above, then check out the next section. This covers the best way to fix all network issues.

In Graphics settings, under Display, we recommend setting your Display Mode to Fullscreen. This will give the most resources towards the game rather than applications you may have open in the background.

Your Screen Refresh Rate should be set to your monitor's refresh rate. To find out what your monitor’s refresh rate is, right-click your desktop and select Display Settings. Scroll down to Advanced Display Settings, and your refresh rate will be shown in Hz here.

VSYNC should be turned off. This setting helps to reduce screen tear for monitors with low refresh rates. This can cause unnecessary input lag which will make the game feel very unresponsive.

Use Restart Shaders Optimization if you are still experiencing graphical issues or stuttering.

Details & Texture settings determine how the game looks but also have a huge impact on your VRAM usage. We have some suggestions for these settings, but we also recommend experimenting with these settings. The Estimated VRAM Usage bar is a useful tool to use to find a balance between visual quality and performance with these settings.

Texture Resolution has a huge impact on your VRAM. For the best balance of quality and performance, Normal is the best option. This will make the game still look like it came out this year but won’t drain all your VRAM.

In Shadow & Lighting settings, change Shadow Map Resolution and Spot Shadow Quality to Low. These settings require a lot from your system to run at higher levels and won’t make a huge difference to your gameplay by setting them lower.

Our last suggestion is to experiment with your Field of View. For most players, you are going to want to see as much as possible for the best gameplay experience. Showing more will require your system to render more, making your system work harder.

Netduma Software Eliminates Warzone Lag

If you are serious about Warzone 2.0, you are going to want DumaOS for the best possible connection. DumaOS can eliminate congestion on your network and give you control over what servers you connect to when playing Warzone 2.0.

The two main reasons you will be lagging in Warzone 2.0 are either you are connecting to far away servers or other people/devices on your network slowing your connection down. DumaOS’ powerful features can resolve both problems and much more.

Matchmaking in Warzone 2.0 uses three factors to determine what players/servers you connect to: wait time, skill level (SBMM), and location. As you probably know, matchmaking is never perfect. This is due to the game not being able to balance these three factors every time. If the game has detected you have been waiting a long time to find a lobby, it may connect you to a faraway server to get you into the game quicker, for example.

The bigger the distance between your console or PC and the server, the higher your ping will be.

But what has this got to do with DumaOS? Well, the Geo-Filter feature of DumaOS allows you to control what servers you play on every time. The Geo-Filter creates a filter radius around your location that blocks connection to servers outside of it. This means when you search for a game, you will only connect to local and low ping servers.

The Ping Heatmap feature will show you the locations of Warzone 2.0 servers and the ping value from connecting to them. With this information, you can include the best servers to connect to within your Geo-Filter.

That’s the faraway servers issue sorted; now let’s cover congestion on your network.

The QoS feature has three tools that work together to eliminate all congestion on your network. Congestion Control stops large downloads or streaming from slowing down your gaming traffic. By limiting the total available bandwidth on your network, it reserves a part of the bandwidth for a fast lane for gaming traffic. Congestion Control can be set to Auto-Enable only when gaming is detected on the network. This allows for full bandwidth capabilities the rest of the time.

Bandwidth Allocation lets you control how you share bandwidth across devices or applications on your network. By moving the sliders towards a specific device or application, it will prioritize it above other traffic on your network.
